Rights Respecting School

We have made a commitment to teach our children and the wider school community about the rights of the child. As duty bearers, the adults within the school community have a responsibility to ensure the children's rights are met.

What is a Rights Respecting School?

By promoting the values of respect, dignity and non-discrimination, children's self-esteem and wellbeing is boosted and they are less likely to suffer from stress. A child who understands their rights understands how they and others should be treated and their sense of self-worth is strengthened.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, or UNCRC, is the basis of all of Unicef's work. It is the most complete statement of children's rights ever produced and is the most widely-ratified international human rights treaty in history.

We received our Bronze Award (Recognition of commitment) in October 2015 and  our Silver Award in July 2018. We are now working towards the Gold Award.

There are three levels to the children’s understanding that we will guide them through.
