Governing Board

Would you like to be a parent governor? Or to nominate someone to be a parent governor?

The role is voluntary and gives you the chance to be a part of how our school and the 8 other nursery schools in the Federation of Maintained Nursery Schools can be the best they can be.

Dear Parents and Carers of children currently attending our provisions 2022-2023. Please find the following message from our Chair of Governors:

On behalf of the school's Governing Board I would like to warmly welcome everyone to the new school year - we hope you and your family have had a wonderful summer and are now looking forward to an exciting term ahead. All of our experienced and qualified staff have been busy preparing classrooms and outdoor areas to be nurturing and stimulating environments ready for all our new children, and returning children, to come and play, explore, learn together.
Over the next school year our teams look forward to working with you as we support your child to develop and grow as confident and independent learners. Following two years of disrupted school life due to COVID we are very much looking forward to welcoming parents and carers back into our school on a more regular basis and to develop strong partnerships with you.
The impact of the pandemic and the cost of living crisis have brought challenges to many families and we hope that our schools can be safe, secure and supportive environments for you all. Please speak to a member of the team if you have any concerns or questions that you need help with; even if we cannot help directly we can always signpost you to the right people who can.
This school believes strongly in the power of partnerships and for that reason we are part of the Birmingham Federation of Maintained Nursery Schools, a group of 9 nursery schools across south and central Birmingham who provide high quality early education to more than 1400 children across the city. All our Nursery Schools share a commitment and belief to delivering the best outcomes for all children regardless of who they are and where they come from; the child is always at the centre of our practice. You can find out more about our schools here. https://bfmns.sch.life/
The governing board is a group of volunteers who work together to support our schools. Many of us are current or former parents and give our time, skills and experience to support school leaders in delivering the highest levels of education and care to the children whilst balancing the various demands that schools face.
We are looking to co-opt up to 4 new Governors to join the Board and we would welcome expressions of interest from anyone interested in the role.
We are particularly keen to hear from people with skills and knowledge in the areas of: Safeguarding; Early Years pedagogy, curriculum and assessment; Finance and data management; and Strategic planning.
If you would like to put yourself forward or would like any further information, please contact me directly via the details below and I will be happy to discuss this with you and answer any questions you might have.
With best wishes for the year ahead,
Sean Delaney
Chair of Governors

The governing board oversees all decisions made about the running of the school. They support the head teacher in making the most appropriate choices regarding Teaching and Learning, Leadership and Management and School Finances.

Governing boards have a strong focus on four core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
  • Ensuring Safeguarding policies are adhered to and reviewed regularly.
